NS Motive Power Consist: 05-01-1995

From Merriam-Webster online: D

og's breakfast:

chiefly British; a confused mess or mixture.

The phrase above is an adequate description of the concatenation of motive power that dragged a manifest into NS' Oliver Yard in New Orleans on the first day of May, 1995. This train had originated either in Chattanooga or Birmingham (I never learned many of the train numbers, remember fewer, and recorded none) and was reaching its terminal point in the Crescent City.

Below is the oddball set of power used:

NS GP38-2 #5126 +SD40 #3172 +U23B #3905 +GP59  #4607 +C39-8 #8639

NS #5126 X-SOU GP38-2 southbound through Oliver Junction New Orleans LA 05-01-1995 (still on roster per: http://www.nsdash9.com/rosters/5000.html )

NS #3172 X-SOU SD40 southbound through Oliver Junction New Orleans LA 05-01-1995 (now retired, probably scrapped after falling into this condition at "Big Dog Locomotives", reporting mark BDLX #3172)

NS #3905 X-SOU U23B south on NS through Oliver Junction New Orleans LA 05-01-1995 (this unit was retired and went south of the U.S., as do many aged GEs, ending up on the Linea Coahuila Durango S.A. de C.V. in Mexico; one of her litter mates in X-Genesee & Wyoming paint on LCD)

NS #4607 GP59 southbound through Oliver Junction New Orleans LA 05-01-1995 (this is ex EMD GP59 demo unit #9, currently out of service/retired because of an engine compartment fire; awaiting rebuild to a GP59E)

NS #8639  C39-8 southbound through Oliver Junction New Orleans LA 05-01-1995 (retired)
